Beautiful Music from Old Manuscripts
Old Yiddish melodies ring out in wonderful, lively new arrangements of wedding and festival music from Eastern Europe that was thought to be lost and has not been heard or played for over 100 years – until today!
The archive contains over 1400 melodies, including the wedding repertoire of Avraham Makonovetsky and the notebook of 70-year-old klezmer violinist Motl Reyder from the small Ukrainian village of Dubno. As if by a miracle, the precious handwritten manuscripts survived the turmoil of two World wars and everything that followed, and have recently been discovered in the basement of the Vernadsky National Library in Kiev.
The melodies, sometimes overflowing with joy, sometimes deeply moving and melancholic, are carefully arranged and performed by Susi & Szilvia, who have a deep understanding of the style and a beautiful rapport with one another.
